Silver Lake: A Small Village With a Big History

A small village between Cuyahoga Falls and Stow: colonials, ranches, and stately homes, some right on the lake.

Living in Silver Lake

Silver Lake, Ohio homes sit in one of Summit County's most distinctive small communities. The Village of Silver Lake covers about a square mile and a half between Cuyahoga Falls and Stow, with tree-lined streets and two lakes: Silver Lake and the smaller Crystal Lake.

It's small, and it has a history most people never guess.

From Amusement Park to Village

Long before it was a village, Silver Lake was one of the biggest attractions in Ohio. Starting in the 1870s, the land around the lake became a huge amusement park, with a roller coaster, a dance hall, a hotel, a racetrack, and even an airport. At its peak it drew as many as 10,000 visitors a day.

In 1917 the park was sold and divided into home lots, and the Village of Silver Lake was incorporated in 1918. Many of the streets you drive today were laid out on what used to be the park.

Silver Lake Homes

Silver Lake is known for its colonials and ranches, including some that sit right on the lake, along with a number of stately homes. It's also home to the historic Silver Lake Country Club.

Because the village is small, there are only so many homes for sale at any one time, so it helps to be ready before one comes up. If you're buying, we'll set up a search so you're the first to know when a Silver Lake home hits the market. See how our buying process works.

If you're selling, a home on or near the lake needs the right comparables, not a citywide average. We start with a Home Value Report at your home.

Schools and Getting Around

Silver Lake homes are served by the Cuyahoga Falls City School District. As always, confirm the district for any specific address before you buy.

The village sits between Cuyahoga Falls and Stow, so shopping, dining, parks, and the rest of Summit County are a short drive away.
